CAASTLC: Our Mission Is To Fight Poverty

Leadership and Financial Resource Development Professional

The mission of CAASTLC, Inc. is to end poverty. We are committed to helping the families and communities of St. Louis County prevent the conditions of poverty for present and future generations.

"The skills and experience I gained at CAASTLC have impacted my life forever.
I am more conscious of what's going on in my community and have the confidence
to make change." Shenisia Watson, Seeds Of Hope participant.

Seeds Of Hope is offered at CAASTLC's community farms in North St. Louis County
and educates teens about culinary & medicinal herbs, gardening and empowerment.
  • Isolation of the poor can be as great in a blighted suburban area as in the urban core or rural pockets.
Reaching all of those in need is as challenging here in St. Louis County
as in rural areas. The loss of auto manufacturing, closure of shopping malls,
and drop in business formation all contribute to decline in jobs.

  • The number of those living in poverty in St. Louis County is increasing while the overall population has dropped, especially the number of those living in extreme poverty.
  • While St. Louis County has more economic opportunity and social service resources than rural areas, it is also a higher cost region. (eg: 45% of County renters pay more than 30% of income in rent.)
  • There are many challenges for teens including gangs and drugs. School dropout rates are high.
